The Coastal Martial Arts Open website is the key point of contact for competitors, parents and instructors seeking information about the tournament and registration. The goal of this project was to improve the usability of the website. The redesign I delivered a newly responsive website with a sleek new UI, and simplified content organization, and a clear call-to-action.
The Coastal Martial Arts Open is an established tournament which hosts over a hundred competitors each year from around the Pacific Northwest. Since competitors come from large geographical area, the online presence of the site is an essential communication tool for the tournament promoter. In order to ensure the website’s broadest reach, I worked with the owner to improve the website’s usability.
The process for this project was focused as there was limited time. My approach was to determine the top priorities for the project to achieve for this tournament season. This involved auditing the existing site, conducting a competitive analysis, and creating personas and a sitemap as well as a simple simple wireframes.
I used the personas throughout the project to evaluate design decisions. I was also able to use my personal experience of the tournament as a competitor and part of the martial arts community to inform my process.
Feedback from the owner: "Thank you for the new website Laurissa, it looks fantastic!"
